Geometric Character Analysis Project – The Crucible
Name ________________
Your character committee’s project is to choose a symbol to represent your character and then create an
arrangement that includes the symbols representing the other five characters and shows the
relationships/conflicts among them. The characters to be included are Mary Warren, John Proctor, Rev.
Parris, Rev. Hale, Abigail Williams, and Elizabeth Proctor. Use the notes which you have kept from your
character committee meetings.
Steps
1. Decide on a symbol that you feel represents your character, and choose the color construction
paper that best suits your character. Make six identical copies of the character and label each with
the character’s name.
2. Give a symbol to each of the other character committees and save one for your committee.
3. Design a background scene representing an important theme or idea from the play on a big piece
of white paper. Include the title and author of the play and the name of your committee members.
4. Using your symbol and the five symbols that you have collected from the other five committees,
arrange the symbols on the white paper so that the relationships or conflicts between the
characters can be seen. You may cut some symbols smaller if you wish. You may overlap them or
have the touching. You may also draw different types of lines, arrows, or symbols to connect
characters. Your committee’s character will probably be at the center of the others.
5. Write a presentations which includes the following:
a. A thorough explanation, with references to the text, of why you have chosen that symbol
for your character.
b. A thorough explanation with textual references of why you have arranged all the
characters in the way that you have
6. Decide which committee member will present each part of the explanation to the class. Each
person in your committee should be part of the presentation, and each person should give
approximately equal segments of the explanation.
7. Practice your group’s presentation so that it will go smoothly. Remember, when speaking to the
class, make eye contact, do not read your presentation, and speak in a loud, clear voice.
8. Consult the rubric for assistance.
