Lesson Plan
Fabulous Frogs
(PreK-1) and (2-4 Grade)
Lesson Title: Fabulous Frogs
Objective: Students will identify the characteristics and metamorphosis of a frog from
egg to adult frog. Students will compare and evaluate their acquired knowledge with a
KWL chart. Students will communicate through poetry what they learned about frogs.
Materials:
Book Fabulous Frogs
Book Quiz (online or printable version)
KWL chart (on the board)
Printable Metamorphosis Visual Chart
Printable Life Cycle Activity Sheet
Paper and pencils (for poetry writing)
Clay or play dough (to mold stages of frog metamorphosis)
The Lesson Plan
1. Engage: Create a frog KWL chart on board. Ask students what they already know
about frogs; write their responses in “K” column in the cart. Now ask the students what
they would like to learn about frogs; write their responses in the “W” column on chart.
2. Students will view the book Fabulous Frogs.
3. Group Learning: Discuss the information and facts about frog learned from the book.
The teacher may use the Printable Quiz Key and the Printable Metamorphosis Visual
Chart to prompt questions for the students during the discussion. (This will prepare the
students for the Quiz)
4. Ask students to recall and name the stages of frog metamorphosis. Call on students to
write or draw brief descriptions of the stages on the board as a visual. Younger students
may demonstrate the stages of metamorphosis through body movements.
5. Ask students to brainstorm describing words for frogs. Make a list on the board of their
adjective responses. (This list will help prepare the students for the Frog Poetry.)
6. Independent Work:
Activity #1
– Hand out the Life Cycle Activity Sheet. Students will write a description
of each phase next the picture.
Activity #2
– Quiz Fabulous Frogs (printable or online version)
Activity #3
– The Frog Poem. Students will write an Acrostic Poem about frogs.
