MISSING/WANTED POSTER
Purpose:
 Define Biodiversity
 Identify threats to biodiversity
Introduction:
Biodiversity is the number of species in a given area. Given an area, the greater the area, the
larger the number of organisms that can be found living in that area. However, you must also take
into account the type of ecosystem. You will learn that there are many threats to biodiversity,
such as habitat fragmentation and habitat degradation. These can threaten the biodiversity of the
planet and in turn affect all organisms despite their currently distant relationships. In order to
better understand biodiversity you will create a poster illustrating what causes a decrease in
biodiversity and the effect that will have on ecosystems as a whole.
You will be assigned one of the following:
A. Wanted Poster
a. Your poster will explain a threat to biodiversity
b. Include the following on your poster
i. Threat name (“alias”)
ii. Description of the threat, for example
1. Distinguishing features, characteristics – (What does it look like?)
2. How long has it been around (“age”)
iii. Explain what is it wanted for? (How does it threaten biodiversity?) –
DETAIL!!!
iv. Where does it come from (“last seen”) – How can it be stopped?
v. A detailed picture – colored
vi. Reward for capturing and Sheriff Name (that’s you)
B. Missing Poster
a. Your poster will explain an endangered or threatened species
b. Your Missing Poster should include the following:
i. Endangered species name (scientific name and common name)…If you
want, give it a pet name too!
ii. Detailed physical description of the missing animal
iii. Where does it live (home – describe habitat)
iv. What does it usually do? (“last seen” – describe niche)
v. Why did it go missing? (Explain what is threatening its
existence?...”kidnapped”)
vi. Detailed picture – Colored
