Ideas for Objectives and Assessment of Family Meal Time Programs
Health professionals and family relation professionals are encouraging family meal-time. Family meals
tend to be more nutritious and lower in cost. Youth who participate in planning, shopping, and
preparing a recipe are more likely to eat the food. Allowing youth to participate in age-appropriate
preparation will build cooking skills. A family that cooks and dines together communicates.
Consider doing a follow-up to see how often families cooked and/or dined together after the
program(s). Did the family try a new food? Are they eating five or more servings of fruits and
vegetables? Are they being active together?
