the preservation of constitutional government.
Lesson objective(s):
The student will know the significant role that President Lincoln had during his
term in office.
Unit Question:
Knowledge: What was one of the Civil War amendments to the United States Constitution that President Lincoln
Proposed?
Understanding: Where was President Lincoln Assassinated?
Applying: Give me an example of a Civil War amendment that is in use today.
Analyzing: Compare the Union Government under President Lincoln vs. the Confederate Government under
President Lee.
Evaluating: Do you think The Confederate States of America, starting with South Carolina, had the right to
succeed from the Union once President Lincoln was elected?
Creating: In your own words, what do you think was the reasoning behind President Lincoln’s assassination?
ENGAGEMENT
This video is about some interesting facts about Abraham Lincoln. The video leaves room for a lot of questions
to be asked, mostly “why” questions.
I will capture the interest of my students towards this subject by showing them a video that tells facts
about President Lincoln.
The students should be asking themselves why did Lincoln do the things he did and why did he believe
in those things? They should also be asking what else Lincoln did during his presidency?
EXPLORATION
Students will participate in Jeopardy game on the smartboard.
Students should be able to answer: Who shot President Lincoln?
