Community Service Form - University Studies Learning Through Engagement
During the 2015-2016 academic year only, students who are unable to meet the requirements for
University Studies Cluster 5B Learning Through Engagement through their normal course work
may complete 15 hours of community service to satisfy this requirement. To process their
community service, students must complete the attached form, which must be signed by the student
and a faculty sponsor. In addition, they must complete a 500-word reflection essay based on the
directions on the form.
Students have the responsibility of locating a community service activity. For support and assistance
in locating projects they are encouraged to contact Deirdre Healey in the Leduc Center for Civic
Engagement.
Faculty sponsors have the responsibility of vouching for the student’s successful completion of the
required hours. It is up to the judgement of the faculty sponsor whether and how to independently
verify the service work completed. Faculty sponsors are also encouraged to support students if they
need assistance with, or have questions about, the reflective essay.
Completed forms and essays must be sent to Keith Coutu in the Registrar’s office, with copies going
to the chair of the student’s major department, and Doug Roscoe, Director of General Education.
