Scholarship Opportunity for Band/Music Students - Grades 9-12
The North Suburban Concert Band (NSCB) has offered two or three scholarships each year to deserving students in
a music program playing a wind or percussion instrument. The 2015 scholarships will be awarded in April, and we
hope to arrange for winners to perform at one of our concerts, perhaps as soon as the annual Pops Concert Sunday,
May 3.
The scholarships will be $400-600 each and awarded to both a senior and an underclassman. A minimum of one
scholarship will be for students in grades 9-11 for the purpose of helping to fund the costs of continuing music
education, i.e. music camps, youth music organizations or private lessons. The scholarships for graduating seniors
are intended for the continuation of his or her pursuit of music.
To be eligible, a student must reside in one of the following school districts:
Anoka-Hennepin District 11; Brooklyn Center District 286; Centennial District 12;
Columbia Heights District 13; Elk River District 728; Fridley District 14; Mounds View District 621;
Osseo District 279; Spring Lake Park District 16; St. Francis District 15
To be considered for a scholarship, the student must:
Complete the application form.
Include a good-quality recording, on CD (No cassettes, DVDs or VHS tapes), of the student performing a
solo audition piece (unaccompanied or accompanied). The selection must be of Minnesota State High
School League Solo and Ensemble Contest quality.
Label the CD with the student’s full name, instrument, and high school grade.

Package CDs appropriately to minimize the chance of breaking.

Do not announce student on the recording, judges are not to know student identity

Include a photocopy of the soloist’s sheet music with the recording (it will be destroyed after judging).
Include a letter telling us of his or her educational goals and musical objectives. This letter should also
include a list of past musical accomplishments, groups he or she belongs to, and any teachers with whom
he or she has studied.
Send all materials to the NSCB address (12050 Stoneridge Road, Dayton, MN 55327), also on the
application form, so the submission is received on or before Friday, April 17, 2015.
Awardees will be notified by Monday, April 27. We hope to arrange for Awardees to perform at a future NSCB
Concert, perhaps as soon as the annual Pops Concert, Sunday, May 3.
