Directions: This chart is a quick way for classroom teachers to collect data on the frequency with which a student displays a
particular behavior. Most appropriate to use frequency data when the goal is to increase or decrease occurrences of behavior.
1. Choose an observational period in which the target behavior is likely to occur. Use this same
observational period each day. A minimum of 5 days of charting should be completed prior to
any intervention is implemented in order to establish baseline data.
2. To record data: Work upward from the bottom of the column each day. Mark each time the
Target behavior occurs during the observation period.
3. To Graph: Connect the highest number marked across columns to graph progress.
