Respond to the following on a separate sheet of paper. Be sure to label each.
1. Setting –
Write a short paragraph that describes the setting in four or more complete sentences.
2. A. Characters –
Using complete sentences, identify the characters in the story, identify whether they
are major or minor characters and explain why for each.
B. Character Analysis –
Write a paragraph (8-10 sentences) about the main character of the story,
telling the following:
 What thoughts/feelings drove this character’s actions throughout the story (what were his
motives)?
 What was the main conflict for this character?
 How did the character overcome this conflict?
 How did the character change from the beginning of the story to the end.
3. Plot
– Summarize the plot of this story in a paragraph of 8 to 10 sentences. Then label (underline,
circle, highlight, etc) each of the following plot elements:
 Exposition
 Rising Action
 Climax
 Falling Action
 Conclusion
Example:
Exposition
The story, “The Three Little Pigs,” begins with three pigs who decided to build their
own homes in the woods in spite of the danger of being eaten by the Big Bad Wolf.
The wolf blows down the first pig’s house of straw, forcing that pig to flee to his

brother’s house of sticks. The wolf then blows down the second pig’s house of sticks.
Both pigs narrowly escape into their brother’s house of bricks. The confident wolf

attempts to blow down this house but cannot. This forces him to try to get to the pigs
through the chimney. The wolf fails at this and loses his life when he falls into the pigs’
kettle of stew.
Conclusion
