MMS Band Commitment Form

Your child is a member of the MANDARIN MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM. Due to the

performance and learning opportunities, required of this program, which occur both during and

outside the normal school day (CO-Curricular), we require your written and participatory

commitment. Please consider the commitment description below:

FAMILIES MUST MAKE THE FOLLOWING COMMITMENT:

Require and assist your child to practice at home weekly (see

for class expectations)

Meet the performance preparation demands of your assigned ensemble.

•

Attend ALL sectionals and rehearsals outside of school as scheduled (unless

•

prior notification is given).

Perform in ALL concerts and performances as scheduled (unless prior

•

notification is given).

Demonstrate appropriate behavior, attitude, and maturity as well as meeting

•

the requirements of the DCPS Student Code of Conduct.

Volunteerism by both the student and parental unit is expected from each

•

family. (We ask that each family volunteer a minimum of 5 hours.)

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Students that participate in any Music Performance Assessment Event (Solo and

Ensemble and/ or Concert MPA) must meet the GPA requirement of a 2.0 from the

previous 9 week grading period. If a student becomes ineligible due to this requirement,

then the student’s most recent progress report will be used. Grade ineligible OR

performance-restricted students are required to attend the performance/ event with an

accompanying adult and turn in a signed program with a written critique of the

performance. (This fulfills the requirement of an alternate assignment for earning a

grade.)

To provide the learning environment your child deserves, rehearsal and performance discipline

will be strictly enforced.
