Don’t Judge An Egg By Its Shell:
A lesson in Easter Egg genetics.
Just because we can see the exterior color of Easter Eggs, doesn’t always mean
that we can determine what color candy will be inside. In this activity, you will
choose different colored eggs and determine what genotypes caused those colors.
The colors of the eggs (blue, yellow, pink, purple, green, or orange) represent
phenotypes. The 2 pieces of candy that are inside the eggs represent the
genotype for that phenotype. You will then determine what the possible genotype
combinations of the “parent” eggs produced the “baby” eggs you have chosen.
