Simplifying Fractions
Notes:
When you simplify fractions, you are writing fractions in
their simplest form.
If the numerator is a “1”, the fraction is already in its simplest
form.
*Examples:
1/4,
1/5,
1/3
If the numerator and denominator DO NOT have a common
factor, they are also in their simplest form.
*Examples: 2/9, 3/5, 4/11
But, if a fraction is not in simplest form, it is easy to fix! Here is
how you do it.
Steps:
1.) Find ALL the factors for the numerator.
2.) Find ALL the factors for the denominator.
3.) Find the GCF (Greatest Common Factor).
4.) Divide the numerator and denominator by the GCF.
