On the back of this paper is a score of Johann Sebastian Bach’s harmonization

of a classic German hymn tune. Please provide a formal analysis on a number-

line-style chart (as in the textbook and lecture examples). Your chart should

include the keys, measure numbers of important events (cadences and key

changes), labels for each phrase, period, or section (A, a, a’, etc.), and a short

paragraph which provides a descriptive name for the form of the whole piece

(binary, ternary, rounded binary, through-composed, strophic, etc.). You

should also explain your chart within this paragraph, so that a person who is

not used to reading charts like this could use your explanation to interpret the

analysis.
