ORHS Biology PRE-AP PROJECT
Biome Poster
Your project for this unit is to create an imaginary continent. By doing this, you will be able to identify a
biome based on geographic location and by the plants and animals typically found in it!
Due Date:
Wednesday, 1/18 (Red) and Thursday, 1/19 (Blue)
Below are the instructions for how to complete this assignment:
1. Create an imaginary continent. The shape of your continent should be school appropriate.
(See example on next page) Your continent should also have a name.
a.
Included on your continent should be the major lines of longitude and latitude. The
lines running horizontally represent the latitudes. The equator is represented by the 0
o
line.
b.
Use page 452 of the textbook to help you correctly place the biomes geographically.
For example: You will not find Tropical Rainforests in polar regions.
2. Place, number, and label on the map the following Biomes: 1) Tropical Rainforest, 2) Tropical
(Savanna) Grassland, 3) Temperate Grassland, 4) Desert, 5) Temperate (Deciduous) Forest,
6) Boreal (Taiga) Forest and 7) Tundra.
a.
You must label all of the Biomes listed above.
b.
You should have a minimum of 1 plant, 2 different animals and 1 geographic feature
characteristic of EACH BIOME (a total of 7 plants, 14 animals, and 7 geographic
features)
i.
The plant, animals, and geographic feature must be drawn (or printed out
and glued to the paper) and labeled.
ii.
The plant, animals, and geographic feature must be real and found in the
designated Biome. For example, Polar Bears are found in the Tundra, not the
Tropical Rainforest.
iii.
Examples of geographic features would include things such as mountains or
rivers.
c.
Each picture on your map should be realistic and colored.
i.
You may choose to hand draw pictures or print pictures.
ii.
You must use the 11 X 17 paper given to you.
d.
Description of the Biome. Include average temperature, precipitation, latitude and
longitude, and biotic / abiotic factors.
i.
Descriptions should be written on the back of the map, in complete sentences.
ii.
List the plant, animals, and geographic feature for each Biome, below the Biome
description.
iii.
Record and describe 1 adaptation of either a plant or animal that is specific to
each Biome. The description should be in complete sentences.
3. Refer to pages 452-457 in the textbook, your notes, or other sources for additional
information on biomes.
