of   t ext   d o   n ot   g et   r ead   b y   b usy   h iring   m anagers   o r   r ecruiters   s o   k eep   i t   s hort!   I t   s hould   o nly  
contain   t he   t op   a ttributes   t hat   y ou   p ossess   a nd   t hey   s hould   b e   d emonstrated   c learly   –  
avoid   v ague   o r   u nsupported   l anguage   l ike   “ detail   o riented”,   “ dedicated”,   “ high   e nergy”,  
“strong   w ork   e thic”,   e tc.  
 
Your   P rofessional   S ummary   s hould   h ave   u p   t o   t hree   p arts   t o   i t:  
 
1. Title.     B egin   b y   g iving   y ourself   a   d escriptive   t itle   t hat   t ells   a   p otential   e mployer   w ho  
you   a re   a t   a   g lance.     O ften   t his   i nformation   w ill   b e   c onnected   t o   y our   m ajor   a nd/or  
your   s tatus:   “ Graduating   M arketing   p rofessional…”;   “ Civil   E ngineering   s tudent….”  
 
2. Differentiate.     W hat   s ets   y ou   a part   f rom   o ther   s tudents?   D o   y ou   h ave   i nternship  
experience?   A cademic   a chievement?   R esearch   w ork?   V olunteer   h ours?   L ead   w ith  
your   m ost   m arketable   t rait,   b ut   s tay   a way   f rom   ‘ soft’   c laims   l ike   “ detail   o riented”   o r  
“good   c ommunication   s kills”,   e tc.   u nless   y ou   c an   d emonstrate   t hose   s kills   t hrough  
solid   e xperience   ( eg,   “ …excellent   c ommunication   s kills   h oned   t hrough   4   y ears   o f  
customer   s ervice   e xperience   a nd   r ecognized   t hrough   E mployee   o f   t he   Y ear   A ward.”)  
 
3. List   p ertinent   s kills/experience.     I f   y ou   h ave   s kills   t hat   a re   d irectly   r elated   t o   t he  
position   y ou   a re   a pplying   f or,   a   b ulleted   l ist   i s   a   g reat   w ay   t o   e nd   a   P rofessional
