Algebra 1 Notes SOL A.6 Standard Form;  and  Lines
Mrs. Grieser
Name: ______________________________________ Date: _____________ Block: _______
Standard Form: Ax + By = C
Example: Identify the form of the equation, then put in standard form.
a)
y = -2x + 1
b) y + 3 = -2(x – 2)
Equivalent Equations in Standard Form
 If we multiply or divide both sides of an equation by the same number, we get an
equivalent equation.
Examples: Write two equations in standard form that are equivalent to the given equations.
a) 2x – 6y = 4
b) -3x + 9y = 27
“Simplest” or “Best” Standard Form:
 Coefficients are integers (no fractions or decimals!)
 Greatest common factor among coefficients is 1
 Leading coefficient (A) is positive
1
 Example: Write in “best” standard form: y =
x – 3
