Standard Form: Ax + By = C

Example: Identify the form of the equation, then put in standard form.

Equivalent Equations in Standard Form

If we multiply or divide both sides of an equation by the same number, we get an

equivalent equation.

Examples: Write two equations in standard form that are equivalent to the given equations.

a) 2x – 6y = 4

b) -3x + 9y = 27

“Simplest” or “Best” Standard Form:

Coefficients are integers (no fractions or decimals!)

Greatest common factor among coefficients is 1

Leading coefficient (A) is positive
