High Speed Steel Spiral Point Taps are designed primarily for machine tapping in through holes with adequate bottom clearance for

chips to accumulate. The cutting face of the first few threads are ground back relative to the axis of the tap to force the chips ahead

of the tap. This reduces loading and clogging in flutes and allows a free flow of coolant to reach the cutting edge. The shallow straight

flutes are not ground as deep as a hand tap, which gives the tap greater strength and can be run at higher speeds with less power.

Ideal for tapping most ductile materials, aluminum, brass, copper die castings, soft steels, etc. They are also known as Gun Taps, Gun

Nose Taps, Bull Nose Taps, or Chipdriver Taps.

Chrome Plated High Speed Steel Spiral Point Taps are plated with a very thin layer of hard chrome to produce a surface hardness

of RC 72. Chrome plating reduces friction, improves lubrication, has excellent wear resistance, and prevents galling. Often used where

lubrication is not possible or available. Can be operated at higher speeds. Chrome plated taps have a bright silver finish. Ideal for

tapping most ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic surfaces.

Titanium Nitride Coated High Speed Steel Spiral Point Taps have a bright gold coating of Titanium Nitride about .0001 thick to

produce a surface hardness of RC 86. It refracts heat and acts as a thermal barrier between the chips and the tap. Titanium Nitride

reduces friction and chip welding and can be operated at higher speeds. Ideal for tapping most ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic

materials.
