PTBA Bat Rules:
Are you in the market for a new bat for your child? Baeball bats can be a minor or major investment
depending on your appetite. Before you run out and buy a new bat, please take some time to read up on
the PTBA Baseball Bat Rules and review the Little League "approved for play" bats for 2014.
Shetland players must use a bat that is stamped "Tee Ball". Like the one pictured here:
All other leagues:
2 1/4" bats are LEGAL in all divisions, if they are manufactured to a Bat Performance Factor of 1.15 or less.
In addition the bat must be labeled "approved for play in PONY Baseball" and stamped "BPF 1.15" and the
year manufactured. Recognizing that some bats may not have the year manufactured on the bat, it still
must have BPF 1.15 stamped on the bat.
ALL FORMS OF BIG BARREL BATS ARE ILLEGAL IN ALL PTBA LEAGUES.
If you have further questions, please see the attached document detailing all Little League approved baseball bats for
2014.
Do you need help with picking the right sized bat?
One of the most common mistakes that people make when purchasing a youth bat is buying one that is too long
and/or too heavy for the child. There is a misconception that a longer bat is going to make your child hit the ball
further. The reality is, that a bat which is too long and heavy, will make it more difficult for your child to develop a
proper and consistent swing. While there is no cookie cutter answer for every player, the sizing chart below (from
) will give you a good idea of where you should start your search.
