Advanced Care Paramedic

Thank you for your interest in the Advanced Care Paramedic program. To assist you in understanding the selection
process, please carefully review the following information.
Admission Requirements:
Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Diploma AND
a) PCP diploma program is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) OR
b) Current employment as a PCP under Base Hospital Medical Authority (letter from employer required)
A-EMCA Certification or equivalent from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Education Branch.
Applicants with pending status are eligible to apply
A minimum score of 70% on a pre-admission test regarding primary care theory, symptom relief and
defibrillation

Selection Criteria:
Primary Care Paramedic Diploma either from an accredited institute OR accompanied by proof of employment
as a PCP under Base Hospital Medical Authority
A-EMCA Certification
Completion of Pre-admission Testing (minimum score of 70%).
The test session is a 130 multiple choice question Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) exam that is linked to the National
Occupational Competency Profiles for the PCP. Approximate content is:
15 questions relating to Trauma
25 questions relating to Symptom Relief and Pharmacology knowledge
25 questions relating to Defibrillation and Cardiac Pathophysiology
10 questions relating to the Nervous system
15 questions relating to Acid Base/Fluid and Electrolyte
20 questions relating to Oxygenation, Respiration and Ventilation
10 questions relating to general anatomy and physiology
10 questions relating to PCP medical math and IV drip rates
