Guidelines
Sponsorship–All applicants must submit an affidavit signed by a bonafide sponsor(s) along with all supporting documents.
Students sponsored by a home country government, United Nations, etc., must furnish an official letter of sponsorship that
specifies the terms of the award, amount of tuition paid, amount of living allowance, etc., as well as how tuition will be paid. All
sponsorships are subject to approval by the Office of the Bursar.
Timely submission–All affidavits must be current. It and all supporting documents must be received no later than six months
from their date of issuance.
Currency–The affidavit and supporting documents should clearly show U.S. dollar amounts and not amounts in foreign
currencies (i.e. yen, rupees, euros, etc.). These funds must be readily available to support your education. For example, real
estate holdings and other non-liquid assets DO NOT apply.
Checks–Note that all checks made payable to NYIT must be written on a U.S.-affiliated bank or appropriate financial institution.
Dependents–Students planning to bring a spouse and/or children must provide evidence of additional financial support: a
minimum of $5,000 for spouse and $4,500 for each additional dependent for the first year.
Notarization–All affidavits must be notarized (attested or certified). In the U.S., the affidavit of support must be sworn to or
affirmed before a notary public (available at most banks). In other countries, the affidavit should be taken to a U.S. Counselor
Officer of the U.S. Embassy. In other cases, bank officials or lawyers in the home country may be used for this purpose.
