LAFAYETTE ANIMAL CONTROL CENTER (LACC)
P.O. BOX 4017C
LAFAYETTE, LA 70502
PRE-ADOPTIVE EQUINE CONTRACT AGREEMENT
Welcome to Lafayette Animal Control Center Equine Adoption Program. We appreciate the fact you
are interested in adopting a horse from our facility.
We would like to take this opportunity to
familiarize you with not only the adoptive process but advise you of the lifelong commitment you will
be entering into should you decide to adopt a horse from our facility.
The animals welfare is our
primary consideration, thus we will make every effort to assist you in determining what horse is best
suited for you and your family.
We have a number of horses available for adoption. These horses have either been brought to our
facility for many reasons, some have been found roaming and some have been picked up and their
owners have not come to reclaim them.
Others have been picked up in reference to Cruelty
Violations, thus requiring additional care. We strive to choose animals regardless of their age and
background and offer them for adoption so they may have a new life and bring you pleasure along the
way. For the majority, we do not know their parents or bloodline, so we are making an educated
guess as to their age and specific breed type.
All horses that enter our facility are assessed by our veterinarian, have been vaccinated, have a
current coggins, and addressed appropriately. This information is relayed to you through the adoptive
process so both you and your veterinarian can be familiar with what treatment this horse has received
while at our facility. All horses are routinely monitored and every effort has been made to keep them
in a state of comfort and good health. It is important for you to understand that these horses may
have an underlying medical condition and/or may be incubating disease without showing any clinical
signs.
It will be your responsibility to have this horse seen by a veterinarian immediately upon receipt of
your adopted horse to receive specific medical attention that may be required. Once the animal is in
your possession, you shall be responsible for the continued care and humane maintenance of your
horse as required by Local Ordinance and your specific State Laws.
The conditions of this agreement are outlined in the adoptive contract.
Remember, this is an adoption, not a purchase. Our staff shall explain the cost associated with each
horse adoption. Each horse shall be microchipped and your personal information will be associated
with your adoptive horse at the time of adoption.
To complete the adoption, all appropriate fees shall be paid to an LACC representative at the time of
adoption and an adoption contract shall be signed by the adoptive owner.
Again, we thank you for choosing our facility and animals. Please make sure you are willing to abide
by these rules prior to the adoptive process.
By signing this agreement, you are stating you are
willing to comply with the entire adoptive process and shall be a responsible horse owner throughout
the life of the horse you choose.
