Estimating a significant economic infestation of Richardson’s ground squirrels:

1 – Walk transect(s) counting burrow openings / holes in a one metre wide area along the transect. (One hole

per 4 metres is considered an economically damaging level of RGS. In a 100 metre transect this equals

approximately (25 X 25) 625 RGS burrows per hectare.)
