Adventures in the Park
Treasure Hunt:
Gather treasure to use
o Kids’ toys, plastic coins, and office supplies work well and are
inexpensive
Choose an appropriate area in the park for the treasure hunt
Have children close their eyes while you hide the treasure
o You can hide each item in different locations or choose one
location for all of the treasure, similar to a pot of gold or
treasure chest
o It is a good idea to count your treasure before starting the hunt
to make sure you collect all of it prior to leaving the park
o Set boundaries for the game and let the hunt begin
To make the hunt more challenging, set a time limit and
enjoy watching the kids race to find the treasure!
Have kids take turns hiding and finding the treasure
Scavenger Hunt:
Give children a list of things to find at the park
o Provide small bags for children to use to collect the items,
create a checklist, or provide a camera for them to take pictures
of the items
Here are a few ideas to customize your scavenger hunt:
o Color Hunt: Make a list of colors and have children find an
object for each color listed
o Letter Hunt: Find as many objects as you can that begin with
each letter of the alphabet
o Nature Hunt: Make a list of animals, insects, and plants for
children to find
Use a local guide as a resource to create your list
