AR Guidelines
 During AR time, students should read AR books, take AR
quizzes, or visit the library for an AR book. AR time IS
NOT a time to study or complete homework.
 Students must have a completed and signed AR log WITH
THEM in order to take an AR test.
 Students may not take a test on a book unless the
English teacher has signed the reading log for that
book.
 When students complete an AR quiz, the testing teacher
should sign and date in the last column.
 AR books should be within the student’s ZPD range
(noted at the top of the log).
 There is a 10 point AR grade penalty at the end
of the nine weeks for a composite book level
below the bottom of the student’s ZPD range.
 Students will turn in their AR logs to the English teachers
at the end of the nine weeks.

How is my AR grade calculated?
There are two numbers your English teacher looks at to calculate your grade – your Average Percent Correct
(APC) and your Percent of Goal (POG). If the APC is an 85% or higher, your teacher considers your APC to be a
100%. If the APC is 84% or lower, the actual value is used. Your POG reflects how many points of your point
goal you actually earned. The APC and POG are averaged together for your AR score. There is a 10 pt penalty if
your Average Book Level is below the bottom end of your ZPD.
