2011 Donation Request
Introduction to MiSCA
Cycling is one of the most popular sports in the world; however, public and most private schools
in Michigan do not offer any type of biking as part of their curriculum or athletic programs. To fill
this void, the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association (MiSCA) was formed in April 2010 to
promote school cycling clubs and develop a statewide mountain bike-racing league dedicated to
students in grades 6 - 12.
As an organization that operates under the umbrella of the Michigan Mountain Biking
Association (MMBA), MiSCA enjoys a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit status. Its board of directors is made
up of mountain biking racers and enthusiasts, who possess a diversified assortment of
professional backgrounds that include education, engineering, and the law. Having established
the foundational elements of MiSCA, the board is seeking donations and corporate
sponsorships to actualize the vision of establishing cycling clubs, providing equipment, awarding
scholarships, and hosting races throughout the state.
Our Mission Statement
The Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association works to establish and maintain safe, quality
scholastic cycling programs. The Association is responsible for establishing a program that will:
Provide support to schools and organizations wishing to establish scholastic cycling clubs
and teams.
Develop and maintain an interscholastic competition series to promote the sport of
cycling and allow kids to build fitness and compete in a healthy outdoor environment.
Provide college scholarships to qualifying students participating in interscholastic cycling
competition.
Promote the value of cycling to our youth and community as a mode of transportation and
a lifelong sport.
Association Membership
The interest level in an interscholastic mountain bike racing league is growing exponentially.
Just by word of mouth over a couple of months, MiSCA enrolled seven (7) clubs from schools
within southeastern Michigan and two (2) clubs are pending membership.
