Cash Deposit in Lieu of Bond – Small Claims and Debt Claim Case Appeal
Instructions: In lieu of filing an appeal bond in order to appeal a Small Claims or Debt Claim Case, the party appealing may make a cash
deposit with the clerk of the Justice Court in the amount of the bond. The party filing the appeal is called the “appellant.”
To appeal, a plaintiff must make a cash deposit in the amount of $500.00. The defendant must make a cash deposit in an amount equal to twice
the amount of the judgment. The deposit must be payable to the appellee and must be conditioned on the appellant’s prosecution of the appeal to
effect and the payment of any judgment and all costs rendered against the appellant on appeal.
A copy of this Cash Deposit must be served on all other parties within 7 days of making the cash deposit. Rule 506.1
