NOTICE OF REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN SUPPORT ORDER
A foreign support order (order for child support/health insurance/uncovered health care
expenses/birth-related expenses/spousal support) issued by an out-of-state tribunal has been
registered in Ohio in this Court under Chapter 3115 of the Ohio Revised Code. You have been
named Respondent in that action.
A copy of the Petition to Register and the registered foreign support order is attached.
YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT:
The amount of the alleged arrearage is set forth in the Petition to Register.
The attached foreign support order is entitled to Full Faith and Credit and, if confirmed,
is enforceable as of the date of the registration in the same manner and is subject to the
same procedures as an order issued by an Ohio tribunal.
You must request a hearing within 20 days after the date you receive this notice if you
wish to contest the validity or enforcement of the attached foreign support order.
Failure to request a hearing to contest the validity or enforcement of the registered order
in a timely manner will result in confirmation of the foreign support order and
enforcement of the order and alleged arrearages by operation of law, and preclude further
contest of that order with respect to any matter that could have been asserted at the time
of registration.
If you request a hearing, you will be notified by the Court of the date, time and place of the
hearing. At the hearing you are responsible for providing evidence to prove any defense you
may have to the validity or enforcement of the registered order. The Court will confirm the
foreign support order unless you can prove one of the following:
The issuing tribunal lacked personal jurisdiction over the contesting party.
The order has been has been vacated, suspended, or modified by a later order.
The issuing tribunal has stayed the order pending appeal.
There is a defense under the law of this state to the remedy sought.
Full or partial payment has been made.
The applicable statute of limitation under R.C. 3115.14 precludes enforcement of some or
all of the arrearages.
If you present evidence that establishes a full or partial defense under R.C. 3115.44(A), the Court
may:
Stay enforcement of the registered order
Continue the proceeding to permit production of additional relevant evidence
Issue other appropriate orders.
An uncontested portion of the registered order may be enforced by all remedies available under
the laws of Ohio.
