2Small Claims or Debt Claim Case Appeal Bond (Surety)
Instructions: A party may appeal a judgment in a Small Claims Case or a Debt Claim Case by filing a bond. The party filing the appeal is called the “appellant.”
To appeal, a plaintiff must file a bond in the amount of $500.00. The defendant must file a bond in an amount equal to twice the amount of the judgment. A bond must
be supported by at least one surety approved by the judge. The bond must be payable to the appellee and must be conditioned on the appellant’s prosecution of the
appeal to effect and payment of any judgment and all costs rendered against appellant on appeal. Within 7 days of filing the appeal bond, the appellant must serve
written notice of the appeal on all other parties. Rule506.1
