2- Just what am I covered for?
- Commercial General Liability $3,000,000 ($250 deductible)
- this covers liability arising out of the operation of your business; e.g. client slips on your slippery floor and
hurts himself
- Malpractice Liability (Occurrence Form) $3,000,000 (no deductible), $4,000,000 aggregate

coverage for bodily injury arising from the improper performance of therapy applied to a patient

Sexual Misconduct Defense Charges, $25,000 (if acquitted)

Office contents (on and off premises) $2,500 ($500 deductible)
NOTE: As is normal in insurance policies from all insurers, neither of these coverages will respond in the event of
a criminal trial, only for civil trials (lawsuits). For instance, if a therapist assaults a patient (or is alleged to have done
so), the policy will not respond. Coverage applies for bodily injury or property damage as a result of the therapist's
actions, subject to the policy exclusions.
Optional Contents Coverage Extension
- Equipment Coverage / Tenants' Improvements $40,000 ($500 deductible)
- your table, computers, furniture, and other gear used to operate the business, for fire, theft, vandalism, and
all risks of direct physical loss or damage subject to the exclusions of the policy
- any additions or improvements you make to leased or rented space used for your clinic are also insured
- coverage is replacement cost coverage
- $1,000 of the coverage is valid for temporary locations, newly acquired locations, in transit, etc. (e.g. a
portable table or pager).
- Earnings Insurance – Actual Loss Sustained
- covers any lost after-expense revenue until your business is restored from an insured loss
- What is the cost?
The basic premium is $105 (November 1, 2008 to November 1, 2009). There is a small additional pro-rated charge
if you need coverage to begin prior to that date. The contents extension costs an additional $300 per year (to May
1, 2009). These policies always expire on the noted dates each year, so please call for the exact premium for your
circumstances. Please call if you want the contents extension as it has its own expiry date. NOTE: These premiums
are subject to change.
- Are there any catches?
Yes. This is a group insurance plan set up on behalf of the Massage Therapists’ Association of Saskatchewan. You
must establish and maintain membership to keep this insurance in effect. If you are a member of the MTAS, the
purchase of this insurance (or similar coverage) is required.
