ALARM PERMIT
Dear Applicant,
There is no question that electronic Alarm Systems are safe and effective weapons for protecting
our homes or businesses against crime and Fire Alarms are the best life safety tool we have. However,
there are some drawbacks too. Unnecessary calls for fire and police services due to false alarms have
grown into a tremendous problem. A Police Department can respond to as many as 3,000 false alarms a
year, if not more. That is a lot of wasted time and effort. Time and Effort that cost the taxpayer in tax
dollars as well as lost opportunities for the manpower that could be directed to traffic and neighborhood
patrols. This affects the Fire Department as well. The time answering false alarms demands much of
their department’s time and resources. That time and effort could cost someone in real, a lot more!
False Alarms reductions can be attributed to several factors:
• Proper installation
• Alarm operation training for ALL users
• Regular maintenance of alarm equipment
November 06, 2001 The Terrell City Council passed an Ordinance requiring the registration of Alarm Systems
and accessing fines for multiple false alarms. A complete copy of the ordinance may be found at the City website,
Please find the alarm permit application on the reverse side. The application should be completed and returned to
the office of the City Secretary, The City of Terrell. A $50.00 permit fee is required and valid for two years.
Please make checks payable to: The City of Terrell. A permit sticker will be given upon receipt of payment.
Renewals may keep existing sticker but updated application and fee are required. All permit stickers must be
placed on a door or window where visible by the police department.

but not less than fifty dollars ($50.00).
nd
2
and Subsequent Offenses

but not less than seventy-five dollars ($75.00).
Please take the necessary action to correct any alarm system problems you may have to prevent fines being
assessed in the future. Any questions regarding alarm permitting and false alarm activity can be directed to
the office of the City Secretary, The City of Terrell.
