Instructions to Applicant
Complete this application form and forward it to the following address: Notary Department, Mobile County
Probate Court, Post Office Box 7, Mobile, AL 36601-0007.
General Information
When we receive a completed application, it will be processed. If approved, we will mail a “letter of
appointment” to the applicant. The applicant will have 40 days from the date of the “letter of appointment”
to obtain and record a “notary bond” with the Probate Court. Notary bonds are in the amount of $25,000.00.
Bring or send your notary bond and recording fee in the amount of $23.00 to the Probate Court’s Recording
Division. Upon receipt and recording of your notary bond, you will be mailed a “notary commission”. You
are not to perform any notary act until you have received your “notary commission”. You should also obtain
a notary seal and a notary register. These may be purchased from office supply stores.
