Bulls and Cows

A game for two players.

Each player takes a game board and writes a four-digit "secret number" at the top. Players take

turns trying to guess each other's secret number. For each guess, the response is expressed as the

number of "bulls" and "cows", with a bull being a correct digit in the correct order, and a cow

being a correct digit in an incorrect order. If the secret number were "1234", for example, and

the guess was "1326", the response would be "one bull (the "1"—correct digit in the correct

location) and two cows (the "3" and the "2"—these digits occur in the secret number, but not in

those locations). The first player to guess the secret number of their opponent is the winner.

Variations might include number of fewer-than or greater-than four digits in the secret number,

or playing in teams.
