Whenever there is a fire, flood or other disaster, take your animals with you, if
you can.
Better yet, prepare a pet disaster kit with the following items:
Carriers, leashes, or some way to control the animal
Food and water for 3 days
Medication
Pet toys
Pictures of your pets
Vaccination records
Pack this in advance and put into a backpack, suitcase or shopping bag. Make
sure that everyone in the family knows where this emergency kit is.
Bring your pets to a friend or family member’s home or other safe place. If you
must go to a shelter, wait for assistance to arrive to help with your pets.
In a disaster, the county government may provide assistance for safe shelter for
your pets, or they may call Yuba-Sutter Domestic Animal Disaster Assistance
(YSDADA) to help you.
YSDADA may set up an animal shelter near the American Red Cross shelter.
If you can’t take your animals with you, fill out the back page of this coloring
book and tape it to your front door or window so emergency workers will know
that your pet is still at home.
