APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
VETERANS HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:
1. Applicants must be a U.S. military veteran who was discharged under other than dishonorable conditions.
2. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents and provide proof of such status.
3. Applicants cannot be an employee, former employee, or an immediate relative of a current or former employee
of The Home Depot, Home Depot Foundation, American GI Forum, or the AGIF-NVOP.
PROGRAM REQUIRMENTS:
4. Applicants should successfully complete a HUD Certified Homebuyer Education Course. This program will
provide the veteran with various methods to access this education in order to complete this requirement.
5. Applicants should be seeking a home to occupy as their primary family residence, not a second home or
investment property.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
6. Complete the VHP Application using blue ink, print clearly, and leave nothing blank.
7. Attach copies of the following documents:
a. DD-214 Member 4 Copy
b. Identification (Military ID Card, VA ID Card, State Driver License, State ID)
c. Birth Certificate / Certificate of Naturalization / Legal Resident Documentation
d. Copy of Employer Pay Statements / Stubs / W-2 (If Any)
e. Copy of Previous Year’s Federal Tax Return
f.
VA Disability Award Letter (If Any)
g. Social Security Award Letter (If Any)

REVIEW & ENROLLMENT PROCESS:
9. Once applications are received, VHP staff review the application and other support documents and will
determine the eligibility of the veteran, and will notify the veteran of the eligibility decision by mail.
10. After eligibility is determined, a Housing Case Manager will begin to assist VHP participants with the home
buying education process.
11. The goal of the program will be to assist the veteran become knowledgeable and prepared to purchase the
home of their choice by becoming educated about what mortgage lenders will require in terms of credit
worthiness.
12. The applicant will need to meet creditworthiness standards and be able to qualify for a home loan from a
lender.

14. THERE IS NO DEADLINE DATE IN WHICH TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION. APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED
AT THE TIME THAT THEY ARE RECEIVED, SO PLEASE APPLY EARLY.
