Asset Mapping for Congregations
Asset mapping is a group activity to understand or “map” the resources around us, as well as the
resources present in the neighborhood and community. It focuses on the strengths and capacities—
the “assets”—of the citizens and institutions (e.g., hospitals, government agencies) and
associations/organizations (e.g., YMCA/YWCA, churches, women’s clubs, farmers markets) in the
neighborhood or community.
Asset mapping can promote connections or relationships between individuals, individuals and
organizations and multiple organizations. These connections can help with problem-solving and
determining policies/activities for desired outcomes.
