READING TREE
LEAF TEMPLATE
We have provided a leaf template for every
student in your class as a fun way to visualize
the campaign and set goals. Whether you create
a classroom tree for every student to add their
leaf to or sprinkle the leaves throughout your
room to display them, we hope the Reading Tree
Challenge will be part of your classroom’s daily
routine. And remember, you will receive new leaf
templates in every classpack to keep your tree
growing all year long!

INSTRUCTIONS
Pass out a leaf to every student and have
them write their name on it, or write it for them,
if necessary.
Work with your students to set a goal for the
number of books they want to read during
the semester. Each student can help set their
own goal, or as a class you can determine a
group goal and then divide by the number of
students. You make the rules!
Reference the classroom tree throughout
the year to keep the Reading Tree Challenge
spirit alive.
Bonus idea! Use butcher paper or markers
on a dry-erase board to create a tree
trunk, hang your students’ leaves around
it, and have your own Reading Tree right
there in the classroom!
Take pictures of your students engaging
with their leaf and/or classroom tree and
post them on social media using the hashtag
#GatherAndRead. You could be featured in our
Reading Tree Forest at TulsaReadingTree.org!
