The loaf cake is a model of a section of bedrock. Your core
sample will bring up a sample of “rock” from deep below. Look
at this diagram of the model.

With your group, decide which core sample each of you will
take. Write the number on the line labeled “core sample.”
As a group, take the samples in the numbered order.

Be sure to draw it right-side up.

With your group, line up all the core sample drawings in
numbered order. Then make a map of the bedrock in this
part of Earth’s crust. Show what you think your loaf looks
like deep below the surface.
