INSTRUCTIONS TO THE APPLICANT
In lieu of related taxes, owners of motor vehicles which operate with LP Gas,
Natural Gas, or Electricity must annually purchase a special fuel decal prior to
January 31 and pay the annual decal fee based on the way the vehicle is licensed.
Special fuel requirements do not apply to motor vehicles with historic registration.

PROCESSING FEES: An additional $3.50 fee will apply for each type of special
fuel decal transaction.
For motor vehicles which are not in operation by January 31 of any year, the decal
fee shall be reduced by one-twelfth for each month which has elapsed since the
beginning of the year. The owner of any vehicle that was titled, registered and
equipped to use LP gas, natural gas or electric fuel as of January 15 must pay
the full year’s fee.
When an applicant increases the licensed gross weight of a commercial motor
vehicle, the applicant may be required to complete the CHANGE OF WEIGHT
section of the application and pay additional decal fees if the weight increase
requires an increase in the decal fee.
When the ownership of a motor vehicle is transferred to another person, the decal
issued to the motor vehicle will remain with the vehicle and shall be transferred
to the new owner. The new owner must complete a new application for the fuel
decal but no fee will be charged for the decal transfer.
When the LP gas, natural gas, or electric fuel equipment is removed by the owner
upon sale of the vehicle and installed on another vehicle owned or purchased
by the same individual, the special fuel decal can be transferred to the newly
gas-equipped vehicle.
A replacement decal may be purchased for a $8.50 fee and a $3.50 processing fee.
The decal must be displayed in the lower driver’s side corner of the windshield on
the vehicle for which it was issued. It should not cover the safety inspection decal.
COMPLETION OF THE APPLICATION
1. Applicant must complete all the information requested in the application.
Failure to complete the application in full will delay processing.
2. If the applicant is transferring ownership of the decal, the previous owner
information must be completed in full.
3. When requesting a replacement decal, all information requested
concerning the applicant and the vehicle must be completed in addition
to the information concerning the replacement decal. THE APPLICATION
MUST BE NOTARIZED WHEN APPLYING FOR REPLACEMENT DECAL.
4. Applicant must present proof of ownership for the motor vehicle in the form of
the previous year’s registration receipt.
