Alternative Registration for Hand-Powered Vessels
All non-motorized rowing shells, racing sculls, canoes, kayaks, rowboats,
pedal boats and inflatables are eligible for this option.
Do NOT register your boat with the Alternative Registration if there is
ever a possibility of ever using a motor or sail with your vessel.
In lieu of the OH numbers and registration decals that appear on both port and starboard of the boat with a traditional
registration, this option consists of a single 3” x 6” decal.
A 7-character boat number will be assigned, but will never be displayed on the boat. Once this number has been assigned
to a vessel, it will be maintained with that vessel for its lifetime. The boat’s OH number will still be on the registration
card and can be found in the database of boat registrations by the number printed on the decal or by the boat’s Hull
Identification Number.
As with all boats, expired decals should be removed before placing the new one.
