An effect is what happens as a result of the cause. It answers the question “What hap-

pened.”

Lisa missed the school bus.

EFFECT:

Lisa was late for school.

Lisa was late for school because she missed the school bus.

CAUSE: Joe left his backpack at school.

EFFECT: Joe didn’t finish his homework.
