Daily Reading Logs
Dear Families:
This year your child will be responsible for completing, maintaining, and
submitting a daily reading log. This will be his/her ELA-R weekly homework
grade.
Attached is an example of the reading log. It will be kept in your child’s
red “To-Do” folder. Your child should read minimum of 20 minutes per night.
The reading may be completed as follows:
 You may read to your child;
 He/she may read to you; or
 He/she may read by themselves with your knowledge.
After reading, your child should complete the log in his/her own handwriting.
Please review that information with your child and sign the log at that time.
Your student should bring the log to school every day so that it can be
checked. If the log is not filled out for the appropriate day, points will be
deducted. Each day of reading will be worth 25 points.
Students may choose to read extra minutes and/or read on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday nights. If they add it to their Reading Log, they will earn
bonus points (5 points per 20 minutes of reading).
Please note: For students reading chapter books, log the name of the
book and the chapter or pages that he/she read on the log. You do not have
to finish the entire book to use it on the log.
At any time if you need reading material, please let me know. Students
may visit the library every day, if needed. They may also check out a book
from our classroom library.
If you have any questions, please call, send a note, or email me.
Mrs. Holly
I understand the reading log must be completed in my child’s handwriting and brought to
school every day so that it can be checked.
