William Penn House’s Gap Year Program is a unique opportunity for recent high school

graduates to live in community with young adults, gaining independent living experience,

learning work and organizational skills, and exploring career options that may help guide

the next steps in professional development. Gap year participants will be a part of the

hospitality staff for 20 hours each week. The rest of the week will consist of exploring

learning and service opportunities in Washington DC. Each Gap Year student will be co-

creator of his/her program, with close and regular supervision from William Penn

House’s Program Coordinator. The outcome of the time together will be a more focused

sense of career paths and life experience to be prepared for those next steps.
