Summer Reading Contract

Summer Reading Challenge Contract
Your child has worked extremely hard this school year with the Wilson
Reading System to improve their reading skills. Unfortunately, if your child
does not continue to read every day they may lose the skills they have
learned. Too many times students have returned to school in September
having lost much of what they have learned because the skills were not
reinforced over the summer.
I would like to issue a challenge!! If you have your child read at least 5
days a week for 30 minutes a day all summer long (8-10 weeks) they will
earn a very special activity with Mrs. Loy. This way, your child can
maintain the skills they learned and possibly increase their ability. I know
this may be a challenge to fit in, but reading is just too important. They can
always read the 30 minutes just before they go to sleep. This is a nice way
to calm kids down and hopefully instill a love of reading (and many over the
years have).
Please sign the contract below, return it and fill out the reading log over the
summer. Admission to our special activity is a completed reading log.
Also, as long as your child keeps doing the challenge they can keep joining
me. Some kids have done this into high school. I appreciate your help with
this. I will send home a copy of this contract so you may use it to remind
your child what you have committed to. Students may also read with an
older sibling, babysitter etc. A copy of the log is also on my website
through the ESM/Minoa Elem. site.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Loy
