High School Law Institute
at the New York University School of Law
Student Policies
[1] Students shall be respectful to all other students, teachers, and board members of the High
School Law Institute. There will be zero tolerance around insensitive comments regarding parts
of a student’s identity like race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic
class. Physical altercations and threats will also not be tolerated. If a student violates this
standard, a board member will have a discussion with that student and his/her parent about the
student’s future in the program.
[2] Students shall attempt to attend every session and be prompt to classes. Students shall notify
the Student Coordinator if they will be absent or miss any portion of the program. If a student
misses classes/events or is consistently late, a board member will have a discussion with that
student and his/her parent about the future in the program.
[3] Students shall complete all work and readings assigned to them and be prepared for the
program. Students shall also actively participate in class. If a student misses assignments
consistently or refuses to participate in class, a board member will have a discussion with that
student and his/her parent about the student’s future in the program.
[4] Students shall turn in all release forms and other requested documents. Students shall have
their NYU issued identification with them at the program. Students who lose or forget their
identification shall notify a board member. If a student does not hand in these documents or does
not maintain their identification, a board member will have a discussion with that student and
his/her parent about the student’s future in the program.
[5] Students shall be respectful of NYU’s property and facilities. Students shall also act
professionally and courteously to NYU students, professors, and employees who will also be at
Vanderbilt Hall. If a student damages NYU property or is disrespectful to people at NYU, a
board member will have a discussion with that student and his/her parent about the student’s
future in the program.
The HSLI board reserves the right to interpret these policies consistently with the goals and
standards of the program.
I agree to follow the policies set out above. I understand that not conforming to these
policies will result in my expulsion from the program.
