RESOLUTION

APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION FOR

THE CENTRAL AVENUE RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT WITH THE FEDERAL TRANSIT

ADMINISTRATION (FTA) OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND

PROVIDING FOR AN APPROPRIATION TO THE TRANSIT DEPARTMENT.

WHEREAS, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds in the

amount of $5,118,511 are available from the U.S. Department of Transportation,;

and

WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency has classified the City of

Albuquerque and Bernalillo County as a ‘‘maintenance area’’ for carbon monoxide;

and

WHEREAS, the Central Avenue Rapid Transit Project is one of the projects

identified in the 2014-2019 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) that will

ultimately provide another type of transit service within the Albuquerque Urbanized

Area; and

WHEREAS, the encouragement of the use of alternative transportation to

improve air quality and decrease traffic congestion has been identified as a program

strategy related to Goal 3 on Public Infrastructure of the City’s Five-Year Goals

Plan; and

WHEREAS, the City desires to appropriate these funds and City funds in the

amount of $872,256 from Transit Capital Implementation Program Fund 305 for

the local match and includes the City’s portion of Indirect Overhead (IDOH).

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL, THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF

ALBUQUERQUE:
