COMPLETE APPLICATION FOR VESSEL TITLE AND REGISTRATION IN ITS ENTIRETY. PLEASE
TYPE OR PRINT LEGIBLY. IF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS NEEDED CONTACT A LOCAL
MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION FIELD OFFICE.
All motorboats propelled by machinery or sail (except windsurf boards and sail boards) must be
registered. All motorboats (boats) ten (10) feet in length or longer must be titled and registered.
Motorboats are registered for a three (3) year period and registration expires December 31st of
the third calendar year. There is no refund of fees if vessel is sold, transferred, abandoned,
destroyed or unused.
Motorboats being registered for the first time, unless the originating document is a Manufacturer's
Statement of Origin (MSO), and motorboats without a Hull Identification Number must be
inspected.
New Mexico Registration Numbers and/or Hull Identification Numbers will be assigned, if
necessary, by the Motor Vehicle Division.
PENALTIES
LATE TRANSFER PENALTY:
There is a Late Transfer Penalty of $20.00 for not transfer-
ring a New Mexico titled boat within thirty (30) days from
date of purchase.
A penalty of fifty percent (50%) of the excise tax is as-
LATE TITLE PENALTY:
sessed if a boat is not titled within ninety (90) days from
date of purchase.
FEES
DOCUMENTS AND FEES MUST BE PROCESSED BY A MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION FIELD
OFFICE.
TITLE FEE:
Ten Dollars ($10.00)
Class A - Under 16 Feet in Length ...................... $28.50
REGISTRATION FEES:
Class 1 - 16 Feet to Less Than 26 Feet ................ $36.00
Class 2 - 26 Feet to Less Than 40 Feet ................ $43.50
Class 3 - 40 Feet to Less Than 65 Feet ................ $51.00
Vessels over 65 Feet ............................................. $66.00
EXCISE TAX: Five percent (5%) of sales price less trade-in. Applicable to boats 10 feet in
length or longer. Credit is given for any tax paid to another state. Gross receipt tax applicable
to motorboats under 10 feet.
