Please read at least 10 minutes each day from a “just right” book. You can use books from home, the school
library, or KCLS. At the beginning of the year, you can have your parent read to you.
Please work on Math homework each night. Second graders are expected to work for 20 minutes on
homework. Get as much done as you can in 20 minutes and return it the next day.
Return the homework packet on Friday. Thanks!
____ Practice your spelling words at home. Try writing them in color or in the air or on the computer, chanting
them, singing the words. How about writing them in a sentence! Spelling test on Friday!!
This week’s spelling words (Synonyms – words with the same meaning): little, small, pretty, beautiful, friends,
pals, stop, quit, huge, big.
____ Be on the lookout for words with similar meanings in your reading. Make a list of synonyms you find for
everyday words. Underline the words that make your reading more interesting. Try using them in your writing.
____ Go to the Spelling City website to practice spelling this week’s words with tests and games at

to practice reading. Test your comprehension skills by
taking the quizzes for the books you read. Read carefully and try to get 100% on each quiz. Have you been
getting 100% on all of your quizzes? If you do, maybe it’s time to move up a level☺
____ Tell your family about some craft moves you’ve learned from Jane Yolen. Show them where you’ve used
some of these moves in your writing.

samples to share with you early in the week.
