Weekly Reading Log

Weekly Reading Log
In grade 5, students are expected to be reading at home on a daily basis. It is
understood that the students lead busy lives outside of school and it may be
difficult to read on a particular night each week. For this reason, our reading log
this year will be based on a total number of minutes read each week. It is
expected that students log at least 100 minutes of reading each week. This
amounts to about 20 minutes each night from Monday to Friday.
In order to track their home reading, students must complete this reading log
each night they read and have it signed by a parent/guardian to confirm that
the reading took place.
Reading Logs will be due on Mondays (or the first day back after a weekend).
A total of 100 minutes or more must be logged by the due date. Incomplete or
forgotten Reading Logs will result in one warning, followed by a consequence
(loss of recess, Think Sheet, phone call home, etc.).
Our goal in Grade 5 is to be reading a variety of genres, so please try to
expand your reading selections to include a variety of topics and genres. The
various genres will be tracked in your daily Reading Log, as well as your
Record of Reading. The Record of Reading must be filled out each time a book
is completed (both at home and at school). By the end of Term 1, we should be
able to view all the books you have read on this chart!
Happy Reading!
