Fundraising for Your Volunteer Program
You are about to embark on an amazing learning and volunteer journey that will change your
life! If you are interested in fundraising for your Volunteer Program, here are a few ideas that
might help.
Tell others how this journey will positively affect your life and the people you are helping.
Craft a personal letter that explains what you are doing and why you have chosen to
volunteer in a village with Village Volunteers, and send it to everyone you know. You will find
a sample form letter on Village Volunteers letterhead, with our tax ID number to use.
Make sure your letter is limited in length to one page and describes your placement and
what you hope to do while you are there. Educate businesses, your friends, family and their
friends, and co-workers.
Provide stamped return envelopes with each letter. Remember, you want to make the
donation process as easy as possible. All they should have to do is write a check.
Contact your local newspapers and magazines. A sample press release follows!
Create a brochure for yourself.
Create a Donation Form. This form will list all of your contact information and several donor
amounts your sponsor can choose from. You are advised to start with a modest amount
($25) but also request large donation amounts ($100+) and any amounts in between.
Follow-up with thank you notes 24 hours after you receive your donation.
Create a website or email distribution list and send out frequent updates about your
fundraising experiences, dollars raised, and details of the journey when you return.
Hold an event, silent auction, or even a series of bake sales. Involve friends and family
members, and remember a donation receptacle. Let us know if you’d like photos or VV
brochures to print.
Contact your school’s financial aid department. They may have grants or funds available for
supporting your program.
Most importantly, stay positive!!!! Chances are that, if you truly believe in something, the people
that care about you will believe in it too. If you start early the possibilities are endless!
Remember that all donations should be made payable to Village Volunteers with your name on
the memo line. Please have your sponsors send their donations to your home. Collect all the
checks, and make copies or log them for your reference. Then, forward all checks to:
