APPLICATION FORM FOR BASA BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME 2014
Dear Arts Organization,
We invite you to be part of the 6 month long BASA Basics Education programme Johannesburg
and Cape Town.
Business and Arts South Africa Education programme aims to address the strategic thrust of
development and support of the arts. BASA Basics will offer you the opportunity to take the first big
steps in making your oragnisation a reality. Once you join BASA basics there is an opportunity to join
BASA Dynamics and Professional as you become more established. The three tier programme is
composed of:
BASA Basics is aimed at arts organisations and individuals wishing to start a for profit or non for profit
organisation. The programme aims to introduce emerging artists to the legal registration options and
processes available in terms of establishing an arts organisation, and further develop arts organisations
to come out with a workable business models in order to take the organisation forward.
BASA Dynamic:
This programme is aimed at registered arts organisations with a basic business model and plan. The
intention for the intermediate program is to focus on the strategic objectives developed from the overall
strategic business model/plan and delve into specific areas of the business plan needing further
strategy and tactics.
BASA Professional:
This programme is aimed at arts organisations that have been in operation for couple of years but are
faced with strategic organisational challenges. This programme will challenge their way of thinking in
terms of generating income and creating innovative business models to ensure long-term sustainability.
Furthermore, organisations at this level may be paired up with a business mentor to further assist and
advise the organisations in meeting their strategic goals.
What the BASA Basic Education programme will entail:
Our 6 month long programme is for arts organisations at the start-up level. It will entail a series of
workshops. The skills learnt during these workshops will equip emerging arts organisations to get the
necessary tools to get started.
The first workshop will be looking at understanding legal entities, Governance and Compliance
The second workshop is establishing the vision, mission, basic operational budgeting, resource
evaluation and basic Business Models.
The next workshop will be on proposal writing, business communication and partnership
friendraising.
At the end of the 6 months, we would like to see that you have become registered and a legal entity (if
you are not already registered) and have a workable business model.
If you would like to be considered for the programme, we need to assess the current position of your
organization and what challenges you face going forward to see how you might benefit from the
intensive 6 month long programme.
